SoulMatcher is an AI-powered dating application where users discover compatible matches through natural conversations instead of traditional profile forms. In the AI chat, they describe their preferences, desired partner characteristics, interests, and appearance to receive personalized recommendations.

Project context
The client had an initial product idea and several competitor references but no defined product structure or interface. The client had an early prototype consisting of several technical screens adapted from a desktop interface. The goal was to transform this concept into a modern mobile experience while preserving the core AI functionality.
My role was to design the entire user experience from scratch—from information architecture and navigation to the final UI.
Working directly with the client, I restructured the product, designed new user flows, adapted the Ionic design system into a cohesive UI kit, and created the core MVP experience within a limited budget.

AI-First Onboarding
CHALLENGE
Traditional dating apps require users to complete lengthy forms before receiving any value from the product.
SOLUTION
Onboarding is designed as a natural AI chat: users respond with text, voice, or buttons, while a profile-completion indicator makes their progress visible. This reduces onboarding friction and gradually introduces the value of the service.
Conversational Feedback for Better Matches
CHALLENGE
Simple like or skip actions provide limited context for improving future recommendations.
SOLUTION
Users can leave feedback directly in the AI chat, explaining why a suggested match was not relevant. This gives the system relevant signals for personalizing future recommendations.
AI-Mediated Matchmaking
The matching flow limits the number of curated recommendations. I designed a non-intrusive subscription path that appears after the first value moment and naturally invites users to access extended features.
Design Process
Beyond designing interfaces, I translated a technical product concept into a user-centered AI experience by redefining interaction patterns, simplifying onboarding, creating a scalable conversational flow, and developing a custom design system to support product scalability and consistency.
